A close friend of ours worked out a system to determine the sex of his baby when he and his wife found out that they were expecting. He calculated the odds based on several factors, the biggest being that all three of his wife's college roommates had recently given birth to girls. I think the odds were 60 something % that he was having a boy. An ultrasound revealed that they indeed are expecting a boy, though we are still waiting for the results in out-of-womb baby form.
Since Mike and I have decided that we'd prefer to not know the sex of our baby until the big day, we are continually plaing our own guessing game. Though no 'odds' have been calculated, we have fun coming with reasons for our baby to be either a boy or a girl. I thought it might be fun to list them and see if one side outweighs the other, so here goes.
Recently, a couple in our class at church had a lovely baby boy. With a second couple expecting a boy, and the previous two babies to be born in class being boys, Mike is certain we will have a girl, because what are the odds of so many boys? So, we'll say GIRL.
All of Mike's friends from High School that have had babies we know about have had girls. What are the odds that there would be another? BOY
I just have a feeling that it is a boy. My intuition is really really bad. GIRL
The baby seems to be carrying really low. According to the 'old wives' that means BOY.
Most of you voted for Girl, we'll say that a majority of you are better guessers than me. GIRL
A friend told me that everyone she know who had a boy got a really big behind. She was nice and said that mine didn't look any different. Liar. BOY
Based on the 'fetal heart rate estimate' there is 5% more chance our baby is a GIRL.
According to the Baby Center wesite poll, we are having a BOY.
According to an About.com Quiz, we are 40% having a GIRL - Does that mean 60% BOY?
(Note, this pole has to be bogus, it asked if my pillow faces north or south, the answer is west. It also asked if I craved salty or sweet (the more I thought about it both sounded good) as well as if I liked the heels of bread.)
So, there you have it, there is a 50% chance that our baby is a BOY and 50% chance that our baby is a GIRL. Keep on guessing and in the mean time I guess I'll need to stock up on the yellow and green onsies!

I asked the magic 8 ball if you're going to have a girl. It said yes.
The magic 8 ball never lies.
